During WWII German Army had two self-propelled guns armed with howitzer – Wespe and Hummel. Fortification of artillery with tracklaying vehicles armed with howitzers had good results on Eastern Front. Wespe (a wasp) was armed with light 105 mm howitzer, which was the basic equipment of each artillery regiment during the wartime. The gun had served from the WWI and in modified version was produced until the end of WWII. Wespe was armed with the best popular type of modified howitzer, which was introduced for service in 1935 – 105 mm leFH 18. Hummel was armed with the heavy 150 mm howitzer, which was used in WWI. Both vehicles became the standard equipment of artillery regiments in panzer divisions from 1943 till the end of war…
